FIFA Basic vs Quality vs Quality Pro
FIFA's Quality Programme has three tiers. All three test the same physical parameters, but the tolerances tighten sharply as you climb — and so does the cost of the licensed seal. Here is what each tier actually means for a buyer.
FIFA Basic (International Match Ball Standard, IMS)
The entry tier. Wider tolerances on circumference (68.0–70.0 cm), weight (410–450 g), water absorption (up to 15%) and sphericity (up to 2.0%). Suits club match, academy and mid-tier retail. Findup Sports produces to IMS-aligned tolerances as our default match-grade spec.
FIFA Quality
The mid tier. Circumference 68.5–69.5 cm, weight 420–445 g, water absorption under 10%, sphericity under 1.8%. This is the practical target for a professional-league training ball or a premium retail match ball.
FIFA Quality Pro
The top tier used in professional competition. Same measurements but at the tightest tolerances — sphericity under 1.5%, pressure loss under 20% over 72 h, water absorption under 10% with harder impact conditioning. Licensed match balls carry the Quality Pro seal.
Tolerances at a glance
- Circumference: IMS 68.0–70.0 / Quality 68.5–69.5 / Quality Pro 68.5–69.5 cm.
- Weight: IMS 410–450 / Quality 420–445 / Quality Pro 420–445 g.
- Sphericity: IMS ≤2.0% / Quality ≤1.8% / Quality Pro ≤1.5%.
- Water absorption: IMS ≤15% / Quality ≤10% / Quality Pro ≤10% (harder impact).
- Rebound: 135–155 cm across all three tiers at 20 °C.
Licence costs & who carries the seal
The FIFA seal is a licensed mark. Licence and test fees run per-model and are payable to FIFA-appointed labs and to FIFA itself for the mark. This is a cost brands typically justify only for hero match SKUs, not the whole range. Findup Sports is not a FIFA licensee — we build to internationally recognized performance benchmarks and can provide independent lab reports against your lot. Brands that need the licensed seal work directly with FIFA's programme.
Which to choose
Promo and school: IMS-aligned tolerances are overkill; do not pay for them. Club and academy: IMS. Premium retail and league training: FIFA Quality-level tolerances, unlicensed. Top-of-range signature match ball for a federation-level buyer: FIFA Quality Pro through a licensee.
