FCL vs LCL — a simple rule
Below roughly half a 40'HC, LCL is usually cheaper. Above that, book FCL. LCL rates fluctuate more and have more handling touches — for fragile or high-value cargo, FCL is safer even below the break-even point.

- It's the simplest, not always the cheapest. DDP pricing includes the seller's duty estimate plus a risk margin — an experienced broker can often land cargo cheaper on DAP or CFR.
- Who insures the cargo on FOB?
- The buyer, from the moment the goods are loaded on the vessel at the origin port. Never assume the seller's insurance covers you post-load.
- How do I verify the right HS code?
- Ask your destination customs broker. Rulings and tariff schedules are country-specific; the same product can sit under different HS codes in different jurisdictions.
