Which fabric is best for a tracksuit?

Tricot (warp-knit polyester, 200–260 GSM) is the default for warm-up and presentation tracksuits — smooth face, good drape and sublimation-friendly. Interlock (150–180 GSM) works for lighter training suits, and brushed poly-fleece (280–380 GSM) is used for winter tracksuits and hoodie-style presentation sets.

Slim, regular or relaxed fit?

Slim fits are cut close through the arm and leg for a match-day presentation look. Regular is the workhorse teamwear fit — enough room for a training baselayer underneath. Relaxed is the streetwear-inspired cut for lifestyle and retail programmes with dropped shoulders and a wider leg.

How is a tracksuit decorated?

Sublimation for all-over graphics on tricot or interlock. Embroidery for crests on the chest and sleeve. Heat-transfer badges for sponsor blocks. Screen print for large mono blocks on fleece. Most tracksuits combine two decoration routes — e.g. sublimated body + embroidered crest.

Fit blocks — slim, regular, relaxed

Every tracksuit programme starts from a fit block — the master pattern that defines how the garment sits on the body. Three defaults cover most of the market:

Fabric choice by job

Tricot 220 GSM — the industry-default presentation fabric. Warp-knit polyester with a smooth face; sublimation prints beautifully, drapes well and holds shape after 50+ washes.
Interlock 150–180 GSM — lighter, breathable, better for training in warm climates. Same sublimation-friendly surface.
Micro-poly 165 GSM — tightly woven polyester with a peached hand. Windproof enough to double as a lightweight shell.
Poly-fleece 280–380 GSM — brushed inside, smooth face. The winter and hoodie-style presentation choice.
Poly-spandex tricot — 92/8 tricot with mechanical stretch, used for the modern slim-fit performance tracksuit.

Construction detail — where the price lives

Zip: YKK moulded #5 for retail-grade, YKK coil #5 for teamwear; auto-lock puller on presentation suits.
Cuffs: rib-knit for warm-up, self-fabric with elastic insert for slim-fit performance suits.
Waistband: 3 cm elastic with internal drawcord for jogger, encased elastic for a clean streetwear finish.
Pockets: side-entry with mesh bag for teamwear; zipped for training; kangaroo for hoodie-style suits.
Piping: contrast piping down the sleeve and side seam is the classic tracksuit signature — done at cut stage, not decoration.

Decoration — pick two, never all four

Every extra decoration route adds cost, sampling time and QC risk. Most successful tracksuits combine two — a body treatment and a badge treatment.
