The Oversized Hoodie Guide

Regular hoodies taper — narrower at the waist, wider at the hem. Oversized doesn't. The side seam runs straight from armhole to hem, giving a rectangular silhouette. That's the boxy read. Combine it with a shorter, wider rib hem (5–6cm) so the hem doesn't cinch inward.

The shoulder seam sits 6–10cm outboard of the natural shoulder point. That flatters most body types by widening the frame, and it creates the relaxed sleeve fall that defines oversized. The armhole is deeper too — 4–6cm below the natural underarm.

• Slight drop (6cm) — modern boxy, still tailored.
• Medium drop (8cm) — streetwear standard.
• Extreme drop (10cm+) — statement / runway oversized; requires premium fabric to hang correctly.

Oversized needs weight to hang correctly. Below 320 GSM the extra fabric ruffles and reads sloppy; 380–500 GSM lets the sleeves fall with visible drape and the body sit off the torso. Almost no oversized programme should ship in sub-350 GSM fabric.

Oversized ranges usually grade only 3–4 sizes (S/M, L/XL, sometimes XXL) because the boxy fit forgives 2–3cm of body variance. Chest grades by +8cm per step (vs +5cm on regular fit) to keep the intentional volume consistent across the size run.

• Grading up a regular pattern — sleeves end up too short for the boxy body; sleeve length must grade +2cm per step.
• Light fabric — 280 GSM oversized looks like a bad fit rather than a design choice.
• Undersized hood — the hood needs to scale up with the body or it looks miniature.
• Straight-fit rib — 8cm rib on an oversized silhouette pulls the hem in and kills the boxy read.
