The 5-Panel Cap Guide

• Front: one unbroken panel, ~24cm wide × 12cm tall. The decoration surface.
• Sides: two panels; carry the venting eyelets.
• Back: two panels meeting at the centre-back closure seam.
• Interlining: optional — light buckram on the front for shape memory, or none for a slouched fit.
• Top button: self-fabric-covered, centred on the panel seams.
• Air vents: 5 stitched eyelets, one per panel (typically 2 side, 2 back, 1 hidden under the front).
• Sweatband: 3.5cm cotton or poly-cotton.
• Visor: pre-curved or flat; 6 top-stitch rows is the streetwear default.
• Closure: metal buckle, snap or hook-and-loop.

On a 6-panel cap, any front decoration has to work around (or avoid) the centre seam. A 5-panel gives you a 24 × 12cm rectangle of clean fabric to work with. That's why the silhouette is the go-to for:

• Large centred embroidery (up to 15,000 stitches on a full-width crest).
• Screen prints — no seam to break the ink film.
• Woven or leather patches — sits flat, symmetrical.
• All-over sublimation of the front panel.

• Cotton canvas 8–10oz — heritage camp-cap look, holds shape without buckram.
• Ripstop nylon — outdoor / technical variant; light, packable.
• Cotton twill — mid-weight, most decoration-friendly.
• Waxed cotton — premium heritage variant; higher MOQ.

5-panels sit slightly lower on the forehead than 6-panels and have a boxier profile because the front panel is a rectangle rather than two wedges. Circumference stays 55–62cm on a one-size version. The crown depth is typically 10–12cm — noticeably shallower than a snapback.

• Adding heavy buckram — turns a heritage 5-panel into a stiff mystery silhouette.
• Off-centred artwork on the front — 5-panel symmetry makes any misalignment obvious.
• Cheap plastic snap on a canvas heritage cap — closure mismatches the fabric story.
• Skipping the pre-curved brim — most retail 5-panels ship gently curved, not flat.
